I have been painting since I was a child, even as my beautiful life took me in other directions.
Acts One & Two
A career in local television: Five Emmy Awards, producing promos, programs, documentaries = some of the greatest moments in my life. A career in healthcare marketing: Commutes, travel, conference rooms, and Powerpoint presentations = rigorous years doing meaningful work with extraordinary people. I've been blessed.
Act Three
The COVID-19 pandemic gave me time to live a more examined life. Communing with hawks, herons, squirrels, robins, ducks, geese, woodpeckers, and trees, I witnessed the natural world awakening as the human world shut down. Spring's wild rising emerged as if nothing else mattered.
Five weeks into the COVID shut down, I started painting trees—purple trees with a yellow sky. Purple trees whisper and shout that anything is possible – that I, too, could be wild and rising as if nothing else mattered.
I have always "known" there is more to life than our five senses would have us believe. Two "mystical" experiences validated that "knowing." The message was simple: "We are all connected as one." I feel a responsibility and a renewed passion for exploring our interrelatedness through my visual art.

Nature's elements start to appear as I begin painting the background; color and texture and wood panel (or canvas) intersect. I express as my subconscious moves me – investigating, exploring, getting lost, finding the courage to keep going, painting my way into and out of perceived truths. It's a spiritual journey that begins with wonder – leading to feelings of disorientation and a sense of wilderness. The work is constantly being deconstructed, allowing me to unlearn, relearn, imagine and discover as I feel my way through and listen for what wants to be seen.
I look for the spiritual in the beauty.
Toni Morrison said, "Sometimes the Earth's beauty is enough. You don't need to photograph, paint or even remember it."
But sometimes, you want to preserve what you have witnessed.
